Cupcakes for Crazies

Sheesh. These things have enough dye in them to kill a small fox. But I made them anyway. Rainbow cupcakes, for the psychedelic leprechaun freak in all of us. They were pretty good, I used this recipe and this tutorial on the rainbow part.

Stamp On It

Make some stamps today. You totally should. These little babies are easy to make and you can do magical things like personalize stationary and cards, etc. Make a stamp out of an image you can’t find anywhere else, the little doodles you make when your bored, or something else fantastic.

Supplies:
-fun foam (fun!)
-exacto knife
-scissors
-glue gun
-cork sheets (or other backing)
-paint

Trace you image onto the foam and cut out with the scissors or exacto knife. Next, if you have little details in your stamp, run over them with the knife for definition. Glue the stamps to the cork backing, and your good to go.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies. With all the opinions on cupcakes vs. pies, donuts and cake, nobody has beef with the cookie. My confession, I’ve never been a cookie person. I’ll eat them, duh, and I have had amazing cookies before, but I don’t seek them out. I’m more of a cake/brownie girl. I’ll drive downtown to get a cupcake. But my husband loves cookies, so when we met I started making them for the first time since high school. They were okay, but just okay, not great. Sooo… I made some today, and they’re great! Okay, I probably should have taken them out two minutes earlier, but still!

Chocolate Chip of course, the very basic essence of a good cookie. I ate three. The recipe’s from allrecipes, but I did change a few things.

Here’s my version:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 a vanilla bean pod, scraped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chip

Bake at 325 degrees for 17 minutes, but don’t over bake.

I know you are but what am I?

I’ve really wanted to try the whole freezer paper stencil thing out. The possibilities are endless. Seriously, just print an image, trace, paint and voila! Instant kick ass shirt with super cool image.

So I decided to do some crafting on the fly this morning. Something manly. Specifically, for a man that is not my dog. It was real easy. So easy I’m not going to show a tutorial, especially since there’s about a thousand of them. For instance, here, here, and here.

Yup, it’s Pee Wee Herman. Roll with it people.

loving the little things

I enjoy:

– tying back the curtains and letting the afternoon sun in
– sitting back and reading a really absorbing book
– having someone else cook dinner
– puttering around the house when everything major is clean
and there is a sense of satisfaction
– having fresh sheets, a new book, and a cuddly dog

Remembering to do the small thing so you can feel good is
always a mood lifter.
